http://www.fvl.org.uk - Forth Valley and Lomond is a government body part of the Stirling Council in Scotland. They have formed the Leader Action Group (LAG). Today LAG is a government body helping businesses in the local area around Scotland.
LAG Features
Built upon LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) architecture, the LAG is based on Drupal CMS and executes standard Drupal features such as
- Ability to register and maintain individual user accounts;
- Administration menus;
- RSS-feeds;
- Customizable layout;
- Flexible account privileges.
LAG website uses phpBB forum. Since its creation in 2000, phpBB™ has become the most widely used Open Source forum solution. This is most widely used opensource bulletin board system in the world. Whether you want to stay in touch with a small group of friends or are looking to set up a large multi-category board for a corporate website, phpBB has the features you need built in.
Another third party application used in combination with Drupal is a Calendar, a secure calendar system, which can be managed very easily by administrator or LAG members with access. This is a Spongecell calendar (http://spongecell.com/promote). This application allows to
- Create interactive event pages to engage your audience. Easily customizable to match your look and feel;
- Post events and calendars to social networks, websites or blogs;
- Manage contacts and subscriptions and send targeted messages to the right people;
- Add calendar and event features to your site using Calendar API;
- Post to Facebook and MySpace to reach social networkers.
LAG Technologies
Drupal is the most powerful and world widespread CMS. Drupal is a free open source Conten Management System written in PHP. It is used as a back end system for many different types of websites, ranging from small personal blogs to large corporate and political sites.
The latest version PHP was used for LAG website (PHP 5) – PHP is easy to use, lightweight while offering full functionality and can be easily extended. Modules and libraries make PHP work with a large number of APIs and other web 2.0 technologies. Some of the biggest consumer sites are built on this environment – Facebook, Flickr, Digg etc.
MySQL is the most popular open source database available today and offers better scalability and features such as transactions and database replication.
The modern cording standards were applied for UPAD: XHTML Transitional, CSS, JavaScript, DHTML/AJAX where applicable
